What Is The San Francisco-Marin Foodbank?
Why I chose them as my cause:
Eating healthy food is a value that has been instilled in me from a young age. My mom was a chef and loves to cook. She always teaches my brother and I about the importance of eating well. Since I began running in high school, I’ve seen how much eating well can help you. Having a balanced diet makes you feel better and gives me the energy I need to run faster. Because I grew up eating nutritious food, having access to it felt so commonplace. I thought everyone had access. However, since I began volunteering with my Grandma at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, I realized just how many people struggle with this problem.
Over 800,000 people in the Bay Area alone struggle with food insecurity. That is a staggering number and is a problem that has spiraled out of control. No one should have to go hungry and that’s why I created this fundraiser to give everyone the same healthy food that has helped me so much.
The people working at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank are doing great things for the community and this money will go a long way in their fight against hunger in the Bay Area.
Since 1987 the San Francisco-Marin Food bank has been one of the largest food banks in the Bay Area. They provide meals to over 53,000 households. Every week, the San Francisco-Marin Foodbank donates 1,000,000 to those in need.
The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s Mission:
The SFM Food Bank strives to get rid of hunger in the Bay Area and provide free produce to people that could otherwise not afford it. They promote healthiness in the Bay Area by giving away fruits and vegetables which connects to my mission of becoming healthier through running. The staff working there are doing great things in the community and I want to help them expand their outreach to more people.

“Groceries are really expensive,” she shared. “But even though it’s hard, I still have to support my three daughters. What I get here is easily enough for a few days, sometimes a week — it depends on what there is. I’m really grateful.”
